Welcome to the International Tibet Support Network

Our Mission Statement

The International Tibet Support Network (ITSN) is a global coalition of Tibet-related non-governmental organizations. Its purpose is to maximise the effectiveness of the worldwide Tibet movement, which is dedicated to ending human rights violations in Tibet and to working actively to restore the Tibetan people's right under international law to determine their future political, economic, social, religious and cultural status.

ITSN is committed to non-violence as a fundamental principle of the Tibetan struggle. ITSN regards Tibet as an occupied country and recognizes the Tibetan Government in exile as the sole legitimate government of the Tibetan people. Beyond these principles ITSN respects the variety of views and opinions of its member organizations and believes that diversity strengthens our movement.

ITSN pursues its goals by working to increase the Capacity of individual Member Organizations, through the Coordination of strategic Campaigns and by increased cooperation among organizations, thereby strengthening the Tibet movement as a whole. ITSN currently has 154 member organizations. ITSN is incorporated in the United States of America, where it holds non-profit 501(c)(3) status.

Uprisings and Crackdown in Tibet

Beginning in March 2008, there were unprecedented protests by Tibetans in Tibet against China's rule. The Chinese authorities responded with a swift and harsh crackdown in which approximately 200 Tibetans died. At least 900, and possibly many more, remain in prison or missing.

If you are not already a member of a Tibet Support Group, we urge you to get involved at this crucial time. More than ever, Tibet needs your help. Click here for a list of our member organizations by region.

Please also consider making a donation to ITSN; we will use all contributions to help the worldwide movement respond most effectively to help the people in Tibet. Thank you.

Below are links to sites with up-to-date news coverage. Please stay informed and participate in action campaigns to encourage your own government to put pressure on the Chinese government, as well as campaigns directed at the Chinese government itself.

Note for visitors to this site: Thank you for your interest in Tibet. We encourage all individual supporters to join a Tibet Group in their region. To find the nearest Tibet Group to you, visit ITSN's Membership directory or contact us. Although individual membership of ITSN is not permitted, we would be very grateful to receive a donation towards our work.
